Do I need to re-pot a store bought tulip plant?

I got a tulip plant from a local grocery store, it comes in soil and no real solid pot, I think its only that green plastic that holds everything together (its covered by fancy wrappings to make it look nicer) do I need to re-pot it for it to survive?

Also, is it possible for tulips to be house plants or should they go into the ground?

Thanks!

Bad news.Tulips are different to daffodils. They flower maybe 2 times and then nothing. If yours is in a pot then its been forced(artificially induced to flower)and is not suitable even for the second year.Buy 10 bulbs in sept/oct bury in pot to twice the depth and keep wet and they will flower in march/april then pop in garden for the second year
Reply:I repot my and after they are done and dried up, I cut away the dead stems and forget about them. They come back every year. I do the same with my easter lilies and they double the blooms the next year.
Reply:I have never had luck getting Tulips to bloom more than once even when sown directly in the garden. It certainly won't cost you anything to experiment and re-pot your bulbs. Just leave them out on your deck in the new pot/soil and water them once in awhile. Leave them out there even over the winter because the bulbs need a chilling period.
Reply:they really need to go in the ground. they will bloom again next year.
Reply:tulips need a cold period to flower again, if you live somewhere with cold winters you can plant it in the ground in the fall for it to bloom the next spring. some people down south use their fridge :) but really its only 50/50 with store bought already blooming so don't get your heart set on seeing it next spring. you can but tulip bulbs at home improvement type places, and they really do look better in large groups instead of just one.
Reply:no it will do you no good to repot the tulips that you buy pre potted are ment to live and die in that pot if you are real lucky and the garden gods are feeling generous you might get some green leaves but not much hope of any blooms by trans planting out side sorry
Reply:Just stick them in the garden when it warms up-they'll come up next year.

You can do that with Easter Lilies too...but the next year they won't be Easter Lilies...because they were "forced", like your tulips were to bloom off season--when planted-will bloom in their normal, seasonal bloom time..For tulips-that's early Spring-as you know..for Easter Lilies--they'll probably be become August Lilies...
